# Self-host an open-source Eigent alternative

> Kortix is open source, and self-host is free, so the whole platform runs on a Linux box you control. Eigent runs a Cowork desktop app on your machine. Three commands start it, and each session runs on a separate sandbox provider.

_Listings_

## Three commands from install to a running stack

Every command here is quoted from the Kortix docs and the project README.

### Install the CLI

`terminal`

```sh
$ curl -fsSL https://kortix.com/install | bash
```

### Build and ship

`terminal`

```sh
$ kortix init
$ kortix ship
```

### Self-host

`terminal`

```sh
$ kortix self-host init --domain kortix.example.com
$ kortix self-host start
```

_The layers_

## Six layers you run yourself.

Kortix is open source, and every layer here is a file or a command you can read.

### 1. One git repo that is the company

Your agents, their skills, your company memory, and every connector live in one git repo you own.

`the project`

```
kortix.yaml
agents/<name>.md
skills/<name>/SKILL.md
memory/
harnesses/opencode/
```

Source: kortix.com/docs/project/manifest

### 2. Reach into the tools you already run

3,000+ apps in a click, plus MCP, OpenAPI, Postman, GraphQL and raw HTTP. Connector credentials are brokered server-side and never enter the machine.

`kortix.yaml`

```yaml
agents:
  support-triage:
    file: agents/support-triage.md
    connectors: all
```

Source: README.md in https://github.com/kortix-ai/suna

### 3. Any model, your keys

Any model provider with your own keys. Or the ChatGPT plan you already pay for. Or sign in with your OpenCode Console account for OpenCode Zen and Go.

`terminal`

```sh
$ kortix providers login opencode
$ kortix providers login opencode-go
```

Source: kortix.com/docs/project/models

### 4. OpenCode is the harness

OpenCode is the harness. The agent file is a stock OpenCode agent file.

`kortix.yaml`

```yaml
opencode:
  config_dir: harnesses/opencode
```

Source: kortix.com/docs/project/manifest

### 5. A cloud computer per session

One isolated sandbox per session. Each session has its own isolated machine and branch.

`terminal`

```sh
$ kortix sessions new --prompt "Summarize this week's commits and open a change request"
```

Source: README.md in https://github.com/kortix-ai/suna

### 6. Change requests

Session work reaches `main` through a change request. Merge is default-deny for agents.

`change request states`

```
open ──(merge)──▶ merged (terminal)
open ──(close)──▶ closed ──(reopen)──▶ open
```

_Quickstart_

## Self-host in three commands

`Self-host on a Linux box`

```sh
$ curl -fsSL https://kortix.com/install | bash
$ kortix self-host init --domain kortix.example.com
$ kortix self-host start
```

Source: kortix.com/docs/host

From the Kortix self-hosting docs. The stack is one Docker Compose process set on a Linux box you control; agent sessions run on a separate sandbox provider.

_FAQ_

## Self-hosting questions, answered

### What is the open-source Eigent alternative?

Kortix is the open-source AI Operating System you can run yourself. Your agents, skills, company memory, and connectors live in one git repo you own, and self-host is free.

### Is self-hosting really free?

Yes. Self-host is free. The stack needs the internet: `kortix self-host start` pulls images from docker.io, and the instance must be reachable so the sandbox can call back.

### Where do agent sessions run when I self-host?

Sessions run on a separate sandbox provider, not on the stack you host. The default is Daytona; Platinum and E2B are also supported.

### Do I need a domain?

For production, point an A/AAAA record at the box and open ports 80 and 443, then run `kortix self-host init --domain kortix.example.com` and `kortix self-host start`. To evaluate without a domain, `kortix self-host init --tunnel cloudflare` uses a Cloudflare tunnel; the tunnel URL changes on every restart.

## Run your whole company from one repo you own.

Start free, self-host, or run it on Kortix Cloud.
